A R T I S T   S T A T E M E N T  &  B I O G R A P H Y

I am an abstract painter creating on large canvases and small works on paper. I paint in abstract format because I find freedom in painting without reference using acrylic, oil, oil pastel, graphite, and charcoal. In morning solitude, I translate energy into abstraction. I layer paint to capture the ethers of the atmosphere, much like the gentle hum of our energetic currents. I use drips to capture pattern and gravity. I utilize squiggles to represent the ties that tether us. Sometimes words are etched into the paintings but they are written backwards and hardly legible. Because the work is less representational, I hope it can prompt the viewer to feel into the paintings rather than mentally rationalize them.

Amanda Davis is an American painter born in 1980.  She studied Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico as well as the local community college. Raised in predominantly Mexican neighborhoods, she became engrossed in street graffiti in her later teenage years, learning color and line work. She explored photography to master color and composition. Abstract painting became a compilation of her decades of art studies. She comes from multiple generations of female painters. Her work has been shown in Beverly Hills, San Diego, and Los Angeles. She currently resides in Southern California.

I look for the juxtaposition between crude and soft, light and shadow. I love grime and squiggles, architecture and contours. I witness the way light reflects and changes throughout the day. I feel the peace that morning solitude can bring- the breath before chaos, the space to daydream, the emptiness that precedes the creation; this is the space I occupy.

Amanda Davis Design creates abstract, mixed-media original paintings and limited prints for purchase in San Diego, California.
